A Healthy Lifestyle Festival — Fun for All
Join us in historic downtown Wake Forest for the 27th Annual HerbFest, a spring celebration of gardening, wellness, food, and community. Held at 530 S. White Street, HerbFest brings together organically grown herbs and perennials, local artisans, live entertainment, and engaging educational experiences for gardeners and families alike.
Whether you’re an experienced gardener or simply love great food and fresh aromas, HerbFest offers something for everyone.
Prefer to watch rather than read? Just click here to explore our video library. You will find educational videos on herb lore and legends, plant care tips, and creative ways to use herbs in cooking, crafts, and everyday living.

A Festival Rooted in Healthy Living
HerbFest showcases a wide selection of organically grown herbs, low-maintenance perennials, and vegetable plants grown from organic seed whenever possible. Many of our growers specialize in rare and unusual varieties — offering one of the most diverse selections of herb plants on the East Coast.
Throughout the festival, enjoy:
  • Knowledgeable growers available to answer your gardening questions
  • Informative plant signage to guide your selections
  • Unique herb-related crafts and handmade soaps
  • Live entertainment
  • Family-friendly activities
Our emphasis on natural and organic growing methods helps protect pollinators, beneficial insects, and the environment while promoting healthy gardening practices.
We focus on practical, one-on-one education — helping visitors choose the right plants, understand proper care, and feel confident taking their selections home.

A Culinary Experience

Herbs come alive not only in the garden, but also on your plate.
Enjoy delicious festival food seasoned with fresh herbs — from rosemary and sage to basil and thyme. Local restaurants and vendors highlight herb-inspired dishes that celebrate fresh, flavorful ingredients. As you explore, you may catch the aroma of lavender in the air, basil paired with mozzarella and tomatoes, or savory sausages seasoned with garden herbs.
You’ll leave not only satisfied, but inspired with new ideas to bring home to your own kitchen and garden.

Gardening for Beauty and Sustainability
HerbFest promotes sustainable landscaping practices such as xeriscaping and drought-tolerant gardening to help conserve water and reduce chemical use. Herbs and companion perennials grow beautifully together, attracting beneficial insects while enhancing fragrance, texture, and visual appeal.
Growing herbs at home allows you to create:
  • Culinary oils and seasoning blends
  • Potpourri and sachets
  • Handmade soaps and herbal crafts
  • Fresh cut herbs for everyday cooking
Because herbs are often consumed directly as leaves, we emphasize natural growing practices and minimal pesticide use whenever possible.

Experience Historic Downtown Wake Forest
HerbFest takes place in the charming setting of historic downtown Wake Forest. Stroll along White Street, explore local shops and restaurants, and enjoy the welcoming atmosphere of our community.
While visiting, be sure to explore the historic birthplace of Wake Forest College and learn about the town’s rich educational and botanical heritage — when botany departments once served as early “pharmacies,” and herbs played an important role in daily life.

Entertainment & Family Fun
Each day of HerbFest features live music, special performances, and family-friendly entertainment including local musicians, and the award winning Franklin Academy Jazz Band! Plus a free art activity for the kids!
Even if you’re not a gardener, you’ll enjoy the festive atmosphere, the aromas of fresh herbs and cooking, and the vibrant energy of this beloved spring tradition.
